1 c butter - cold 
2 c flour 
1 c sugar 
1/4 c milk 
1 egg - reserve a little egg white and milk to brush the top 

Mix flour and sugar together. Cut butter into flour and sugar. Mix egg and milk together. Add to butter/flour mixture stirring quickly as if making a pie pastry. Do not knead, but form with your hands into a ball. Spread dough into a greased tin. Brush with egg white and milk mixture. Bake 1 hr at 325 F.
